With Handlebars collects nothing about you. There is no account to make, no tracking, no analytics, no cookies, no advertising, and no third-party SDK watching what you play. That is the whole policy; the rest of this page just says it precisely.
This covers the website at withhandlebars.com and the With Handlebars iOS app, which are the same program: the app is the site, packaged to run on your phone.
What stays on your device
The board keeps a little state so it looks the way you left it. All of it lives on your own device and none of it is ever sent anywhere.
- Your board settings. Tuning, handedness, fret count, spelling rules, lenses, theme and the rest, stored in your browser’s local storage (or the app’s own storage on iOS).
- The board you’re looking at. The current chord or scale is written into the page’s address so any board is a link you can share. The address is yours; we never see the ones you make.
Clearing the site’s data in your browser, or deleting the app, removes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else.
Sound, and the network
The instrument samples ship with the app, so nothing is fetched while you play. On iOS the app works fully offline and makes no network requests at all — not on launch, not while practising, not ever.
The website’s host
The website is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, it records ordinary server request logs — an IP address, a browser user-agent, the file requested — for a short period, to deliver pages and to fend off abuse. We do not read them, build profiles from them, or keep any copy of our own. This applies only to the website; the iOS app talks to no server, so it produces no such logs.
Links that leave
The website’s footer links out to Ko-fi, to our GitHub repositories, and to the crew’s own site. Following one takes you to somebody else’s site, under their privacy policy rather than this one. Inside the iOS app the Ko-fi link is not present at all, and the other links open in Safari rather than in the app.
Children
We collect no personal information from anyone, which includes children. There is nothing here to consent to.
Changes to this policy
If this ever changes — and it would only change by us adding something, since there is nothing to take away — the new text and its date will appear on this page.
Questions
Anything here unclear, or want to know exactly what the app stores? Ask us. The code is open, so the answer can always be checked rather than taken on trust.
